TeachSmart Learning System (TSLS) Aligns with Early Reading First

by Susan Gunnewig Posted on: December 11, 2008 at 11:11 AM

Since our presentations of the TeachSmart Learning System (TSLS) at NAEYC in November, the interest for Early Reading First (ERF) grantees has increased. Our TSLS system has been mentioned on the ERF listserv and some NAEYC participants have blogged about it as well. I am very pleased that these grantees are seeing the connection between the ERF grant and TSLS.

TeachSmart is aligned with the ERF parameters. The extensive activity bundle enhances children’s language, cognitive, and early reading skills as developed by scientifically based reading research. We also include screening instruments in the system to identify children who are at risk for reading failure, and the digital portfolio is a fabulous tool for parent conferences.

At Hatch we concur with the ERF mission statement: To ensure that all children enter kindergarten with the necessary language, cognitive, and early reading skills for continued success in school.

Anything less is unacceptable.
