I am an avid reader of Lisa Guernsey and Sara Mead, who write for Early Ed Watch. These ladies have been providing up-to-date information for their early education readers for quite awhile. In a recent post, Sara poses a question, “High Quality Prek-3rd: How Much Does It Cost?” (visit: http://www.newamerica.net/blog/early-ed-watch), the contents of this piece provides guidance for her readers.

She documents the Foundation for Child Development as a reference to answer this question. We also learn that “the Department of Education has already issued guidance that encourages districts to think about using ARRA funds to better align standards, curriculum and instruction in grades preK-3rd.” Montgomery County, MD is using their ARRA funds to expand full-day Head Start.

As a 1965 Head Start teacher, former classroom teacher of struggling readers for 28 years, it is very important that this alignment take place for all prekindergarten children. To this end, Hatch announces the Hatch Head Start ARRA Solution to reach the federal goal of scientific based materials/curriculum and alignment through grades kindergarten and beyond.

P.S. I found Sara and Lisa by reading Holly Barnes Higgins’ news clips from Pre-K Now at www.preknow.org.
