USA Today reported on December 8, 2009, the recent results of a new survey of 1,583 directors of Head Start programs. The survey was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The survey’s purpose was to determine any changes in food that the program is providing for children. The conclusion is “many preschool children in Head Start programs are being offered fruits and vegetables and low-fat or non-fat milk daily. This change is due to the increasing concern about childhood obesity.” Children are playing every day. These changes could be because of the “I’m Moving, I’m Learning” teacher training.
Head Start is the largest federally funded early-childhood education program which serves about 1 million low income children ages three and four.
