President Obama Talks to Students Across America, Early Childhood Too!

by Susan Gunnewig Posted on: September 3, 2009 at 4:39 PM

President Obama will address students September 8, 2009 at 12:00 E.D.T. Mr. Obama will be challenging children from Pre-K through 6 to work hard, set high goals and take learning seriously. Teachers have been provided suggested questions to support the speech. The questions are located at the U.S. Department of Education’s homepage at www.ed.gov

I applaud the President for taking time from his busy schedule to speak to our children. Prekindergarten children may not maintain interest for the entire length of the speech. However, three and four year old children, with their teacher’s assistance, will learn that the leader of our country wants them to do their best. Our young children often see role models that do not provide a positive influence. I applaud the U.S. Department of Education and most of all, President Obama, for sending a motivating kickoff to the school year. Thank you.

As these children watch, I hope they will be sitting in early childhood classrooms which are making every effort to prepare them for kindergarten with knowledge of letters, writing their name, counting, love for reading and a very large vocabulary. Happy New School Year!
