HOUSTON, TX - To prepare children to succeed in school and compete in today's technology-driven environment, educators must provide access to cutting-edge education technology that improves learning outcomes. Challenged by funding sources, the Jewish Community Center of Houston reached out to members of the community to meet the need of introducing technology into its preschool classrooms. The community responded. Following a series of fundraisers, one TeachSmart® and three iStartSmart™ Learning Systems by Hatch® were installed in February 2011.

"I cannot express merely in words my gratitude for our donors who funded the TeachSmart and iStartSmart systems in my classroom," said Laura Talisman, Pre-k teacher. "My students' learning experiences in early literacy, language development, math and science are greatly enhanced by this technology."

The TeachSmart Learning System by Hatch contains more than 1,100 preschool activities pre-loaded onto a Hatch computer with a SMART™ Board interactive whiteboard. Recently released, the first research study ever conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of interactive whiteboard technology in preschools shows the TeachSmart Learning System can significantly improve math and early literacy learning outcomes.

The authentic login feature of the iStartSmart Computer Learning System allows children to independently access interactive activities that develop proficiency in 18 skill areas that early childhood research shows will lead to kindergarten readiness.

"Having the Hatch systems in our preschool has helped us carry out our philosophy of teaching and learning though exploration and discovery," said Bonnie Kasner, Director of Early Childhood Programs. "We sincerely thank Hatch and our donors whose generous, ongoing support helps our preschool remain a vital asset to the community. Together with their help and technology from Hatch, we continue to provide quality education in a dynamic and caring environment."

"Hatch is excited to provide the Jewish Community Center of Houston with innovative technology solutions that personalize learning, engage students and support teachers," said Hatch President Ginny Norton. "Both iStartSmart and TeachSmart are research-based solutions that are designed to improve learning outcomes, allowing schools to maximize their return on investment in education technology."
